A grass-roots approach to providing small grants to community artists
October 9, November 13, December 11, 2011
January 8, February 12, 2012
Planet Altered provides an opportunity through C.A.F.E. for local artists to receive local funding through small grants that can be put directly back into the community through projects done in the area. C.A.F.E. is local community investing in arts and artists providing a direct impact to the local economy.
Our monthly Sunday C.A.F.E. grant event is a grass roots gathering of community where everyone pays to attend a delicous soup supper, listen to a description of the artist's project, and then vote for their favorite. The winner of the grant received $10.00 of each ticket sold for that evening's gathering.

My name is Nora Bernhardt. I am inspired by stories about kindness. There are thousands of these stories. Everybody has a story to tell. I want to hear the stories of kindness that come from people in my community.
I am a book artist... which means that I design and bind handmade books. I am currently making a book that will have many blank pages. The leather-bound book will be big and sturd ... y so that it can hold stories of kindness from hundreds of people. It will be called The Book of Loving Kindness.
In the next few months, the book will circulate to various locations in Chattanooga, Tennessee so that people can write and draw on its pages, telling their own stories of kindness.
At the same time, blank pages will be given to schools and organizations, so more people can tell their stories. Perhaps art teachers might have their students draw pictures and create images of kindness on the blank pages. Writing teachers might have their students create poetry and prose about kindness. A group of senior citizens might write about their experiences. People at an animal shelter may chronicle acts of loving kindness they have witnessed. All of the pages will eventually be collected and bound into The Book of Loving Kindness.
The completed The Book of Loving Kindness will be shown in different locations in Chattanooga later this year.
I look forward to what can happen!
